About the team
The Finance Team’s mission is to protect and serve Canva and its stakeholders. One of the responsibility of the team is ensuring that employees and vendors are paid in a timely manner and that related costs be properly reported accurately. So payroll computations are important but very administrative in nature and as Canva continues on its rapid trajectory of growth, the payroll related activities will become more and more complex.
 
With over 100 FTEs, the team is now in need of a General Accountant who will bridge the gap between People Operations and Finance. The Commercial Accountant will be responsible for servicing employees and vendors, ensuring that payments are calculated accurately, on time and in accordance with applicable legislation.
 
About the candidate
As our General Accountant your primary role is to ensure that employee payroll payments and vendor payments are calculated with accuracy, on time and in accordance with applicable local and international legislation. It will also be the your responsibility  to ensure the accuracy of relevant supporting journals relating to employee and vendor payout specially during month end activities.
 
We are looking for a candidate who has experience in payroll and accounting in a commercial environment, has high attention to detail, thrives on achieving target service level agreement and an aptitude for using up-to-date systems and technology.
 
We’re a fast-moving business so change is frequent and volume will continue to grow. We're looking for someone who's comfortable working in a hands-on environment and have excellent communication skills.

What you'll do...

  • General Accounting
  • Preparation and review of journal entries related to employee and vendor payouts
  • Review and monitoring of accounts to ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness
 
  • Payroll & Benefits
  • Preparation of payroll and contractor computations including related taxes and entitlements
  • Preparation of tax compliance returns and other payroll related compliances to different government agencies like SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-ibig
  • Monitoring of employee benefits and reimbursements
 
  • Reporting and Analysis
  • Reconciliation of accounts and creation of detailed reports for management’s needs
  • Assist with month-end and year-end audit activities

You’ll love this role if you have...

  • A Bachelor’s/College Degree in Finance/Accountancy or equivalent
  • At least 2-3 years general accounting related experience
  • A sound understanding of labour laws and employee/vendor related taxation
  • Experience in payroll related activities such as payroll calculations and compliance in different government agencies
  • Experience working in a private company environment across multiple teams
  • The ability to work within set deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and a pleasing personality

We’d love it if you...

  • Are a Certified Public Accountant or equivalent certification
  • Have experience in using cloud accounting and/or payroll software
  • Have experience in managing output-based vendors
  • Have experience in a fast paced, dynamic startup environment
