The Test Automation Engineer will be responsible for the development and execution of hardware solutions that automate testing strategies for physical sensors, such as pressure, flow, acceleration, strain, and temperature.  Primary responsibility includes designing and developing test hardware that automates the testing of propulsion and avionics components. This role is for a dynamic, self-starting individual with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full-time position located at our Arizona Test Site (ATS) facility north of Tucson, AZ.

A typical day might include the following:

  • Develop custom automation solutions to engineering challenges using a combination of embedded electronics and innovative hardware
  • Working closely with engineering staff to plan upcoming tests, develop corresponding test equipment, and source/manage the procurement or development of the test equipment
  • Define and implement project plans, manage milestones and hold reviews to assure reliable test systems are delivered to production
  • Write Verification Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports against product requirements
  • Investigate test or sensor failures and communicate/execute recommended actions

This job might be for you if you have these:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/ Computer Science/ Electrical Engineering or similar experience is required
  • 3+ years of experience working with Research & Development and Manufacturing engineering teams 
  • 3+ years of experience with Altium, Cadence, or similar ECAD software designing printed circuit boards is required
  • 3+ years of experience designing harnesses for automated testing is needed to thrive in this role
  • 3+ years of experience working with pressure transducers, load cells, temperature sensors (RTD, thermocouples, etc.)
  • Willing to travel <10% to Huntington Beach, CA facility to support test campaigns and support program reviews is likely
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours minimum
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces
  • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed

It would be impressive if you also have these:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or computer engineering
  • 3+ years of experience supporting test, automation, etc. to transition products from development to manufacturing
  • Experience with test equipment, including thermal chambers, data acquisition systems, pressure controllers, DMMs, etc.
  • Development experience in Python, LabVIEW, SQL, MATLAB, and Embedded C
  • Experience with Siemens NX and/or Teamcenter
  • Previous experience in aerospace or space related industries testing propulsion and avionics hardware
  • Previous experience with NI based hardware including CompactRIO, CompactDAQ, PXI

  • Ability to work as a member of a cross-functional team
