About the Role:
Reporting to the VP of People & Culture, Imperfect Produce is looking for a Director of People Operations who will be responsible for leading the People Business Partner function.
Through a deep knowledge of all client business, people and organizational needs, the Director of People Operations supports People Business Partners by bringing an appetite, diagnosing complex issues, recommending solutions, and engaging the appropriate resources to provide People services that support the successful achievement of business goals. The Director of People Operations also serves as a consultant to senior management on human resource-related matters, leads with heart, and acts as an employee champion and change agent.
You'll partner with People ops, talent, total rewards as well as work cross-functionally with teams across our Imperfect family. This position will partner with the VP of People & Culture and key stakeholders to ensure the development and advancement of an empowered values-driven workplace culture, and actively plan for, address, and forecast organizational needs.
Overall, the role will offer timely, forward-thinking counsel on all issues related to the organization's People operations in support of its mission to grow the movement of eliminating food waste and building a better food system for all.


    • Oversees and assesses the effective delivery of HR programs and services for all functional teams through the lens of a Senior People Business Partner
    • Lead and set project timelines, priorities, and staffing requirements for the People Business Partner function
    • Provides coaching and consultation to PBP team, executives and senior management on strategic projects, department goals, HR policies and programs
    • Ensures multi-location continuity in terms of People programs, management philosophy and company culture, which in turn fosters consistent practices and thinking within different functional teams and the organization
    • Effectively collaborates with the People Operations Center of Excellence (Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management/Learning & Development) when working on the development and implementation of strategies and programs to attract, develop, reward and retain exceptional talent
    • Partner with Legal and Finance COE’s to audit and ensure org-wide compliance, specific to: employment law, wage & hour, EEOC, FMLA, CFRA, SDI, Unemployment, LOA’s, medical insurance, family leave, etc
    • Through their team, the Director of People Operations oversees the delivery of meaningful organization and talent review processes, as well as ensures the effective execution of talent management initiatives (retention planning, succession planning, calibration programs, development planning, etc.)
    • Alongside the PBPs, the Director of People Operations initiates timely and appropriate discussions with senior leaders regarding organization design issues within different functional teams and provides guidance on organization change practices and actions.
    • Support and design communication strategies to introduce new People programs, experiences, and Company initiatives. Ensures effective communication strategies are in place within the organization and builds two-way communication channels
    • Manages the People Business Partner budget and approves expenses

Skills and Qualifications:

    • 8+ years direct experience in the HR field, SHRM-SCP/CP a plus
    • BA or BS degree, preferably with an emphasis in HR or Business, MBA a plus
    • People management experience, with an excellent track record of developing and coaching a team of strong and emerging HR partners
    • Must be a successful leader of people, have strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team. Must be able to decide how to allocate people, time and other resources to create, execute, and accomplish a project plan on time and within budget
    • Analytic, and systems thinking abilities. Able to identify complex issue essentials, delve under symptoms to find root causes, and analyze matters from multiple perspectives
    • Broad and deep HR knowledge and expertise in various functional areas such as Organization Design & Development, Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Total Rewards and Learning and Development
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead the design, developments, implementation, and evaluation of HR programs (capable of leading HR project teams).
    • Comprehensive knowledge in legal risk assessment as well as the application of employment law in business situations
    • Strong business acumen and organization diagnostic ability
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Details of the Position:

    • Full-time, exempt position reporting to the VP of People & Culture based in San Francisco (Bayview)
    • Salary and employee stock options commensurate with experience

    • May require travel dependent on business needs (up to 25%)

Physical Requrements:

    • Sedentary work; predominantly involves sitting most of the time
    • Standing desks and / or other ergonomic accommodation is available upon request
