Job Description:

Anaplan’s Market Development team is looking for an Associate to develop and drive go-to-market and industry sales strategy. The Associate position offers a unique opportunity for mid-level consultants to make the transition to a high growth, B2B SaaS company and apply their experience in a sales strategy capacity that has exposure to many functions in our organization to play an active role in helping shape Anaplan’s go to market strategy.



As a Market Development Associated, you will be responsible for leading the analysis to support Anaplan’s go-to-market initiatives, including but not limited to:

  • Analyze industry ecosystems
  • Create industry value chains
  • Assess Anaplan’s current industry and solution portfolios
  • Develop new and innovate go to market strategies
  • Provide input to growth plans

 Additionally, this role offers the opportunity to:

  • Gain management and team leadership confidence by creating and delivering insights in presentations that go far and high in the Anaplan ecosystem
  • Establish strong working relationships across multiple functions – Sales, Pre-Sales, Customer Success, Marketing, and Product teams to achieve the above objectives with limited managerial involvement
  • Play a critical role in supporting growth planning processes through data-driven insights and recommendations to improve Anaplan’s performance in the field
  • Lead and create analytical tools and processes to support the cross-functional input and data gathering needed to drive industry growth
  • Serve as a liason to cross-functional teams and lead critical ad-hoc analyses and projects

 Relevant Professional Expertise:

Well-suited candidates will come from a consulting or similar professionals services background, with experience in a generalist business consulting role with a concentration of work in strategy, quantitative analysis, value chain analysis, and / or product portfolio design. The expectation is that this role would grow over time to take on a leadership role in the Market Development team or another organization within Anaplan.

Example backgrounds could include:

  • BA/BS degree in business, economics, finance, or engineering (all types)
  • 1-2 years in SaaS finance, operations, or ‘BizOps’ type function
  • 2-3 years in Associate or Consultant roles at management consulting, investment banking, or venture capital

Business Process, Planning and Analytics knowledge will be an important foundation within the team. Experience in one or more of the following planning areas will be very compelling, but not required:

  • Experience as a strategic consultant at a leading consulting (ideally Big 5) firm working in teams to develop and execute strategies, plans, and programs for clients across many industries
  • Strong knowledge of different transaction group process flows
  • Strong knowledge of planning and analytics market including key players, emerging technologies, and new business models (including platforms, MDM solutions, integration solutions, planning and analytics solutions, back-end system architecture and other supporting technologies

Preferred Technical and Professional Qualifications:

  • Exceptionally strong communication skills, backed by stories of effectively communicating and influencing senior management (verbal and written via Powerpoint)
  • Experience in high-growth, performance-focused environments
  • Demonstrated eagerness and ability to work in start-up-based high-growth, performance-focused environment with lots of ambiguity
  • Exposure to Anaplan’s software
  • Fast learner, self-starter, and problem solver
  • Exposure to standard sales operations and SaaS metrics (i.e., NNACV, CAC, ratios, roles etc.)
  • Comfortable working in matrixed organization and ambiguous role
  • Ease in lateral thinking to understand connections between operational metrics (e. g. sales quota attainment) and financial metrics (e. g. cost of sales)
  • Broad business process experience/knowledge across multiple business functions as well as industries
  • Experience and comfort working in an Agile environment
  • Ability to capture findings and author content suitable for senior stakeholders, working in an environment free of highly prescriptive methodologies
