Lead Engineer, Maritime at Spire

As a Lead engineer at Spire on our Maritime team, you will build, manage, lead and inspire a world class team of global Software Engineers who are motivated and passionate about innovative data products that solve solve customer problems on a global scale.  You might be the right fit if you love exciting technical challenges, hate getting bored, and enjoy collaborating with engineers who are changing the way the world thinks about space, satellites, and data. You’ll lead, and grow, a team responsible for the design and maintenance of our ground-side data processing pipeline, from ingesting satellite data all the way through designing and scaling the APIs that our customers depend on for global data insights.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Build, lead, manage and grow a globally distributed Software Engineering team
  • Serve as a technical product manager, working closely with the Maritime product manager to translate product definitions from business requirements to technical strategy, roadmaps and goals
  • Inspire your team by defining a technical roadmap with a strong, cohesive technical vision
  • Onboarding new hires, managing a globally distributed team and attracting the best software engineering talent from around the world.
  • Plan, propose and track projects, ensuring that they’re delivered on time, and in the process, coming up with creative solutions to meet product objectives.
  • Initiate and implement Agile methodologies while running weekly sprints. Train team in the mechanics of Agile and the underlying reasons why Agile works.
  • Communicate cross-functionally to ensure everyone’s on the same page with peers, your manager, direct reports, and others as needed
  • Serving as an individual contributor when necessary, writing and reviewing code and doing whatever it takes to deliver successfully

 

Qualifications/Expertise:

  • Exceptionally detail oriented and well organized, and ability to go as deep as needed in any software project to figure out what is and isn’t going well.
  • At least 5 years of experience working as an individual contributor.
  • Proven experience building and managing teams and cohesive ideas on how to build teams.
  • Domain flexibility, good communication skills, and preference for simple, robust solutions.
  • Experience with web services.
  • Some experience with data science or data engineering.
