VP of Legal & Compliance at The Pill Club

Position Overview
As our first Legal expert you will play a key role in defining and developing compliance and legal initiatives. You will be responsible for leading company strategic and tactical legal initiatives.  You will provide senior management team with effective advice on company strategies and implementation. This role will report to the CEO.


    • Ensure compliance with all outside regulatory and legal requirements.
    • Working knowledge of ACA, HI-TECH, HIPAA, Stark law at federal and state level.  
    • Expertise in thought around these issues as related to telemedicine.
    • Develop, plan, organize and execute day-to-day operational compliance activities throughout the organization (customer service, medical group, pharmacy).
    • Responsible policies and procedures are developed for patient consent. Have working knowledge with respect to insurance and telemedicine within the medical field.
    • Engage with product team members at all levels, including product managers, release managers, software engineers, data scientists and marketing.
    • Review, draft and negotiate product, technology and partner  agreements
    • Develop, maintain, and enforce policies and procedures to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.
    • Audit and advise the business on legal risk of marketing and advertising materials.
    • Assist in the tactical build-out of a compliance management system, which may include managing the compliance testing program, creating the testing plan and schedule, and reporting findings to committees and the Executive team.
    • Serve as a resource for members of the executive team and provide legal support for  their initiatives, and act their trusted adviser and confidant
    • Develop standard contracts and forms for essential company projects
    • Interface with and manage outside counsel on issues relating to contract negotiation;   financing; data security and privacy; intellectual property.
    • Develop and implement corporate compliance program consistent with applicable principles from OIG/CMS/OCR  guidelines.
    • Serve as a resource with cross-functional initiatives, providing guidance on how processes can be improved across the company
    • Provide legal advice to support accurate and timely decisions where appropriate.
    • Contribute to and provide data protection training and awareness programs, including building knowledge management frameworks
    • Review and draft agreements
    • Provide compliance and regulatory counseling on legal matters pertaining to the operation of the company.
    • Flexibility to adapt and thrive in an environment that is constantly changing with an ability to prioritize and re-prioritize based upon the needs of the business.
    • Provide compliance guidance that balances regulatory requirements, risk mitigation and business objectives.


    • Juris Doctorate degree is required.  Admitted to the California Bar and in good standing, preferred.
    • 10+  years of experience, with at least two years-experience in house at a start-up (preferred).   Experience with compliance and healthcare regulations in multiple states.
    • Ability to think quickly on your feet, convey grace under pressure, and simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands and shifting priorities.
    • Ability to establish and manage relationships with leaders and provide required consultation.
    • Prior experience implementing a corporate compliance program in a regulated industry
    • Strong drafting, negotiating and analytical skills
    • Strong core corporate / transactional experience - drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and advising on a variety of transactions.
    • Strong working knowledge of  ACA, HI-TECH, HIPAA, Stark law at federal and state level.  Have working knowledge w.r.t insurance, telemedicine within the medical field.
