Operations Team Lead at Starship

Starship Technologies is building a fleet of robots designed to deliver goods locally. Our robots have completed tens of thousands of deliveries, travelled 20 countries, met millions of people and have been tested in over 80 cities around the world to date. They drive autonomously and are sometimes assisted and monitored by humans who can take over control at any time. Launched in July 2014, by two Skype co-founders, Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis, Starship is changing the way parcels, groceries and food are delivered.
 
We are looking for a process development savvy Team Lead for our operations in Milton Keynes. We provide food delivery on the Monkston area to households in the neighbourhood who want orders from their favourite restaurants and shops delivered to their doorstep.
 
The Team Lead will manage all aspects of the Starship site, including running day to day onsite operations through leading a team of Field Assistants, taking care of our fleet of robots, handling regular communication with key local stakeholders, and finding improvement opportunities for onsite operations.

In the role of the Team Lead you will:

 

    • Plan and manage the day to day operations of our people fleet onsite including putting together schedules, reporting time sheets for payroll and vacation calculations, handling recruitment, onboarding and retention activities,
    • Analyse the daily metrics of onsite deliveries and translate them into improvement actions for increased operational efficiency,
    • Coordinate your activities with internal stakeholders incl Product, Mapping, Autonomous Driving, Support & Deployment etc for continuous improvement of our processes and tools,
    • Set short and long term goals for developing the site and operaions, and follow up on turning plans into actions,
    • Be the first point of contact for commercial partners onsite to ensure smooth running and continuous improvement of service.

A successful candidate:

 

      • Has a university degree (or is in final stages of acquiring one),
      • Has experience in leading a team and knows that self-awareness and self-leadership skills are the basis to being a good leader,
      • Has experience in leading projects and processes, and is used to working with metrics and KPIs,
      • Has hands on experience in change management,
      • Knows how to get things done (and is comfortable with rolling up sleeves in order to do that),
      • Thrives on taking initiative in finding sustainable solutions to challenges related to people, operational efficiency and continuous improvement,
      • Has great communication skills to build great relationships with our commercial partners and collaborate with fellow colleagues and diverse teams within Starship,
      • Is enthusiastic about our industry.
 
    • Lean and Six Sigma competence is a merit, as well as background from an international company dealing with production, logistics or similar.
