Canva’s Brand Group has a big mission to build the most loved brand in the world! Our success is shaping how we communicate and relate to our community, and guide teams internally to deliver delightful product experiences and communications. We’re looking for a talented creative director to join our team, and work with our product marketing, creative and PR & Comms teams to coordinate new product launches, shape go-to-market strategy, and deliver exceptional creative to promote Canva across all of our channels.

You’ll be an experienced designer who thinks strategically, but is also prepared to roll up your sleeves and get things done.

Your role ...

  • Own Canva’s brand pillars (Human, Inspiring, Empowering) and ensure they are being reflected in all our communications
  • Bring our Brand Pillars to life by solidifying our brand guidelines and internal asset library and empower all our teams to work from them
  • Lead the creative direction on upcoming product launches. Drive new product launches and announcements, coordinating with internal product teams, design, SEO, email, customer service, and PR & communications
  • Coach, train and advise teams on strategy and communication to empower our design, copywriting, and creative teams across the organisation.
  • Direct creative briefs and project manage new marketing content and collateral
  • Work closely with channel and marketing teams to provide them with the user insights, positioning, and messaging they need to succeed
  • Create inspiring and impactful visual content with the Brand and Communications team. This will include strategic communications for product launches, case studies, internal culture initiatives and events.
  • Collaborate with the other product teams across Canva to create product launch campaigns that are aligned across all touchpoints and on-brand.
  • Build and coach a high performing design team. Take the lead on design projects and act as a mentor for other designers in the team
  • Facilitate idea-generating sessions and creative workshops.
  • Manage multiple projects and liaise with production suppliers
  • Help us make Canva the most loved brand in the world!

Experience you'll need

  • At least 7+ years of experience in brand design at a creative agency or an in-house design team
  • Experience working with brand strategy and applying brand systems across multiple touchpoints.
  • Experienced visual designer with a strong portfolio demonstrating your passion for conceptual thinking, brand systems, art direction and beautiful design.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of various design mediums, and how best to leverage them. (Canva will become an integral part of your design toolkit!)
  • The confidence to try new things, and a passion for big ideas and storytelling.
  • Experience launching products for global, world-class brands, and driving campaigns, communications and go-to market initiatives
  • A natural leader who can rally teams of all kinds, and influence peers across the organisation
  • Great blend of hands-on operational and design/strategy experience. You’ve managed creative teams and led production
  • Ability to think strategically (beyond just the here and now), and synthesise lots of complex information to come up with solutions with tangible impact.
  • Able to influence and work with a wide range of stakeholders, including the founders, speciality leads, product teams, customer service, social media, PR & communications, product design, engineering
