Therefore, we have recently started investing in a dedicated DevOps department in Copenhagen and are now looking for a skilled DevOps Engineer who wants to lead and inspire the team.

The company

LiveIntent is one of America's highest profile startup companies. LiveIntent is a fast-growing New York-based company that operates and develops the leading marketplace for email-based advertising. Since March 2019, we have successfully entered the market for Identity Graphs and Data Onboarding in the United States.

LiveIntent Copenhagen started as a Danish start-up company in 2013 and was acquired by LiveIntent in November 2015. The team consists of people who have been with it since its inception in 2013 as well as 14 new hires who joined since the end of 2016. We both develop and operate an online, real-time service that receives billions of calls from the outside world and other LiveIntent components, and an offline, batch-oriented analytical data processing pipeline that prepares data for online service and for batch deliveries.

The department handles, processes and analyzes billions of web / e-mail requests per day, and the code base maintained is a very complex set of Scala and Python programs.

The position

We are looking for a skillful DevOps Engineer with experience as a team lead. The DevOps team currently consists of two people with long experience from other companies. Some of the traditional production tasks are currently handled by data engineers and data scientists in the office, but the hope is that these tasks can either be automated or split up so that the technical challenges can be solved in DevOps.

As a team lead, you must both actively participate in the DevOps work, and at the same time act as mentor and prioritizing leader for the others in the department. You must work with data scientists, data engineers, product managers and DevOps leads from other company's offices. It is important that you can estimate and manage major DevOps projects flowing from these partners.

We believe in flexibility under responsibility, and our development process in data engineering and data science is as a result a loosely defined hybrid of agile methods and rapid prototyping. We are prepared for a similar model in DevOps, but it is a place where the successful candidate will be able to set the direction.

Your profile

You have a minimum of 5 years of experience as DevOps from other positions and have strong opinions about how DevOps is performed effectively. You recognize tooling and automation as the key elements of the Dev section of DevOps. You understand that the Ops section requires vigilance and a sense of responsibility. You are passionate about trying out ideas in a colorful technical setup in close collaboration with extremely competent colleagues. And then you are ready for a job where the journey is more important than the goal.

We work with the following technologies that you either know or would like to understand:

  • Cluster processing in Hadoop / Yarn and Spark
  • Kubernetes provisioning
  • Docker deploys
  • AWS services (S3, EMR, Lambda, Route 53, ELB, Athena, Batch, EC2, ECS / ECR, Kinesis, ElasticCache)
  • Jenkins
  • Airflow pipeline management
  • Web Services (Play, Hystrix)
  • Voldemort KV clusters
  • Linux
  • Python
  • Scala

You approach problems analytically and solutions pragmatically. You are full of good ideas, able to see opportunities and weaknesses in the ideas of others and can find ways to discuss ideas in a constructive way. You love to have many issues on your mind and to find the red lines and overlaps between them.

You want to understand and get involved in the company's technical solutions and can communicate in English with management and colleagues at the other LiveIntent offices. You are comfortable in a dynamic environment where overall priorities and definitions change over time, and therefore completion of tasks are not always prioritized. You are good at handing over tasks but can also follow tasks through by yourself. You work independently and enterprisingly, and you have a contaminating enthusiasm for the tasks you work on. You see the possibilities in the present and are interested in your teammates and take responsibility for their personal development and job satisfaction.

We offer

You can look forward to being a key player in a challenging and dynamic development story where you will join a team with some of the industry's absolute greatest talents. Here is plenty of opportunity to learn from others, and you will have the flexibility to structure DevOps the way you want. We are passionate about new solutions, technologies and algorithms and can guarantee an ever-evolving collection of technology to dive into.

We believe in freedom and flexibility under responsibility. So, office hours can be adapted to your life to a large extent. If you need to work at home one day, it's OK as long as you deliver on your commitments. You also have free choice of work machine (Linux, Mac, Windows) and tools, but you are expected to be able to troubleshoot and maintain them yourself.

We are an international company, with lots of contact between the units, so there is plenty of opportunity to move careers to Berlin or New York later. Formally, the position is a standard official position of 37 hours at the office in Fiolstræde 31 in Copenhagen K on Nørreport. Lunch, telephone / internet and health insurance are of course included. The position is for occupation as soon as possible.
