Operations Lead at Starship

Starship Technologies is building a fleet of robots designed to deliver goods locally. Our robots have completed tens of thousands of deliveries, travelled 20 countries, met millions of people and have been tested in over 80 cities around the world to date. They drive autonomously and are sometimes assisted and monitored by humans who can take over control at any time. Launched in July 2014, by two Skype co-founders, Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis, Starship is changing the way parcels, groceries and food are delivered.
Starship Technologies is looking for an Operations Lead to aid in growing and scaling our teams into a large number of locations nationwide.  You’ll work closely with a number of small teams to help manage our current operations while laying the foundation for how we manage operations in the future.
This role calls for a highly adaptable individual who’s able to wear multiple hats in a fast-paced, startup culture.  Starship is entering a period of exciting growth and this role will require a multifaceted lead to play a substantial role in team management, operational excellence, and our ongoing expansion efforts.  We’re looking for a candidate who is comfortable incubating new processes and systems, confident in leading teams, and willing to roll their sleeves up to solve problems.

In the role of the Team Lead you will:

    • Remotely manage small teams on university campuses, ensuring a consistently high-caliber team regardless of location
    • Innovate - Develop and implement scalable processes for overseeing teams of employees working together in different locations and timezones
    • Optimize - Improve our delivery performance by making data-driven improvements and employing best practices to ensure a world-class service
    • Execute - Lead the deployment of new US operational sites from the ground, guiding cross-functional teams to successfully deploy our service in challenging, new environments
    • Influence - Identify the needs of our markets and advocate for the right priorities to make sure they’re addressed.  This role will work cross-functionally with our Operations, Data, Product, Engineering, and Business Development teams
    • Analyze - Consistently evaluate our performance through metrics, helping to refine our data needs as we grow.  Data guides the way.

    • Willingness to travel 25% of the year, as needed

Experience & Educational Requirements:

    • BS or BA from a top-tier university 
    • 3-5 years of experience in operations management, people leadership, operational excellence, or process improvement
    • Experience leading remote teams is preferred
    • Location: Washington, DC

Working hours: as needed depending on service on campus
Traveling required: 25% of the time or depending on business needs
