Machine Learning Engineer, Maritime Payload at Spire

Spire Global is a 150-person space data company founded in 2012. In less than six years, Spire has built one of the world's largest satellite constellations, and we're just getting started.

We are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our Singapore office. The Senior Machine Learning Engineer will be an integral part of our AIS Payload team, and lead ML-related R&D activities to improve the performance of our software defined radio (SDR) payloads for AIS reception.

Responsibilities of your role:

  • Applying machine learning techniques to develop and evaluate algorithms to improve the performance of a satellite payload based on a software defined radio
  • Contributing to the implementation of algorithms onto the actual payload hardware
  • Validating the on-orbit performance of the payload
  • Applying machine learning techniques to optimize the operational performance of the payload and for anomaly detection

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Either an MSc or Ph.D. degree in STEM or other similar qualifications
  • Exceptionally well-organized, with the ability to go as deep as needed in any project to identify and resolve problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated working experience applying machine learning techniques and advanced data science techniques to problems, preferably in the field of digital signal processing
  • Experience and aptitude in developing hypotheses and machine learning solutions for real-world problems
  • Quantitative background in statistics, computer science, math or other technical fields
  • Experience with common analysis tools available in Python (such as NumPy and scikit-learn) and deep learning libraries (such as TensorFlow and Keras)

Strong candidates will also possess skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Communications theory, digital radio communication and signal processing
  • Software Defined Radio
  • Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery) / Google Colab
  • NVIDIA Tegra
  • Embedded systems development
  • FPGA development
  • C or C++ development
