Product Designer at Numina
Brooklyn, NY, US

Numina’s mission is to make cities more responsive, so they are safer, healthier, and more equitable for the people who live in them. We make a hardware and software computer vision platform that senses bicycle, pedestrian, and other street traffic and delivers real-time intelligence — without surveillance — to help urban planners and municipal governments design better streets and public places. We are a small, multidisciplinary team looking for passionate people to join us as we pursue our shared vision of more responsive cities. We are company rooted in design; the original seed of the idea behind Numina came out of an AIGA Design for Good initiative.

We seek a Product Designer to craft every part of Numina’s experience, interface(s), and marketing. We are currently revisiting our frontend product and messaging as we launch new products (mainly, dashboards and APIs) facing new user types and stakeholders. In this role, you will develop existing assets, create new concepts from scratch, and, as our 11th employee, heavily influence our overall product strategy. We need your brilliance as we prepare to deploy in 10 cities before the end of this year!

WHAT YOU WILL DO HERE:
You will research, wireframe, skin, user test, and hand-off to developers _all_ of Numina’s interfaces (i.e. internal, customer-facing, and public-facing). You will help conceive of new products while bringing additional features, scalability, and maturity to our existing dashboard and graphic assets. Ideally, you have a background in data-heavy projects and/or transportation/mobility, and you have a passion for high-impact visualizations and maps. Some of your responsibilities:
•  Create user personas, which will guide the design of our website, digital products, and communications
•  Generate wireframes, storyboards, user flows, and sitemaps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
•  Translate chosen solutions into pixel-perfect interfaces
•  Present designs to product stakeholders (internal management, customers, etc.)
•  Lead user testing activities
•  Iterate quickly
•  Hand off designs to developers smoothly and informatively
•  Conduct quality assurance on developed interfaces
•  Rigorously document all work, learnings, feedback, successes and failures
•  Generate print and marketing materials that best represent Numina

WHO YOU ARE:
You have designed products from concept to release. You think holistically, from system design to pixel-perfect interactions. Like us, you value creativity, curiosity, and intellectual honesty, and you are committed to solving problems with us together as a team. Your desire to have a huge impact motivates you to do extraordinary things, and you're excited to be one of the earliest members of an exceptionally productive, rapidly growing team. You may have experience with some of the following, or can't wait to learn them:
•  Adobe CS, Sketch, Figma, and/or your preferred graphic design, wireframing, and sharing software and tools
•  User research and testing
•  Web design best practices and responsive interfaces
•  Good version control practices
•  Data visualization for temporal and geospatial data
•  Cartography
•  Bonuses:
•  Experience with print and industrial design (we make a hardware product!)
•  Ability to generate interactive prototypes and/or code functional interfaces

We strive to be a team of positive, open-minded, respectful, resilient, dedicated, accountable, logical, creative, and empathetic people. We dedicate our days to building an amazing product that makes a real difference in the world. We love learning from each other and learning new things together.
