Systems Engineer at Zwift

Fit-Tech will consist of high calibre, experienced individuals rolling up to the CEO through the Director for Engineering and the VP Fitness Technologies. The division will form a new P&L within the business and will focus on topics of high strategic importance to Zwift and Zwift eSports, in particular developing new products that improve or enhance the overall Zwift offering. Fit Tech consists of 3 main divisions, of which Engineering is the largest, the others being Programme Management and Product Management.

The Systems Engineer role is a newly created position within the Fitness Technologies (Fit Tech) Engineering Division, reporting to the Director. The Systems Engineer is responsible for:

  1. Systems engineering of all products in the Fit Tech portfolio:
    1. System architectures and interfaces.
    2. Integration of hardware products into the Zwift game.
    3. Integration of Zwift products with 3rd party equipment and software.
  2. Deputising for the Director when required.
  3. Managing a team of software, firmware and electronics engineers and technicians.
  4. Acting as Design Authority for system, software and firmware.
  5. Managing FMEA analysis in conjunction with mechanical and electronics designers.
  6. Engineering management of all electrical, electronic and software workstreams.
  7. Setting up and implementing good engineering practice across all relevant domains.

The Systems Engineer, along with the CAD Manager, are the senior Engineers within the division and as such have a key responsibility for setting and maintaining standards of work and ensuring that good engineering practice is always followed, as well as providing leadership and mentoring to other team members.

As Systems Engineer you will interact within the business as follows:

  • To the Director and VP within Fit Tech.
  • To the VP R&D.
  • To Programme and Product Management within Fit Tech.
  • To peers in the Engineering Division (CAD, Industrial Design, Production).
  • To Zwift Game Designers and Engineers.
  • To suppliers, contractors and consultants.
  • To subordinate staff.

Required skills and experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (electrical, electronics or software preferred), Computer Science or equivalent numerate subject.
  • Master’s or higher degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years general and systems engineering experience.
  • Likely to be Incorporated or Chartered status.
  • Member of an institute such as the IET.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering processes and procedures including design authority, change control, source code control, configuration management, requirements management, testing, validation and verification.
  • Experience with system architecture and interface design and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of at least one high level coding language eg C/C++.
  • Knowledge of bluetooth and similar protocols a bonus.
  • Previous team management experience essential.

Location & Travel:

  • London & South East UK, primary place of work.
  • Regular visits to Zwift’s Long Beach CA Office and Taiwan Contract Manufacturers may be required.
  • Ability to travel to anywhere in the world on a monthly basis to perform the roles and duties.
