Director of Operations - New Site Expansions at Starship Technologies

Starship Technologies is the world’s leading autonomous delivery company and the first autonomous delivery company to complete over 100,000 commercial deliveries. Our autonomous delivery robots have traveled over 350,000 miles in 100 different cities and have crossed streets over 4M times. Our robots work 7 days a week in neighborhoods, at universities and at industrial and corporate campuses. 
The fastest-growing segment of our business is university campus partnerships where we are doing food and grocery deliveries to students. We are expanding rapidly and are adding a Director of Operations to help us scale our operations to hundreds of campuses and cities across America. 
You will be responsible for managing hundreds of new site launches, ensuring that we set up the site, hire and train onsite teams. You and your team will manage the entire launch phase including onsite relationships with campus staff, food service providers, facilities, hiring, training, logistics, and robot infrastructure.
A successful candidate will have proven operations excellence, demonstrated the ability to hire and scale teams rapidly to enter new markets.

In this role you will get to

    • Own the entire end-to-end launch of every new site from start-finish
    • Ensure launches happen on-time, on-brand, on-budget, and site will successfully operate once the launch team leaves 
    • Refine and improve the playbook for successful launches to enhance our ability to scale quickly and efficiently
    • Help grow the new site businesses, driving execution to increase merchant adoption, user adoption, and the number of deliveries. 
    • Recruit, build and train a rockstar local operation teams
    • Drive success by aligning everyone behind milestones and ensuring teams are always on-track to meet them
    • Communicate effectively so that all parties stay informed and aligned throughout the entirely of the launch phase. 
    • Always look to optimize processes, plans, and costs that help Starship scale.
    • Bring order to a dynamic environment with short timelines while working under tight deadlines, and not being afraid of going out into the field on the ground level
    • Be a culture carrier. Create a fun, inclusive, and safe workplace for employees at each of the new sites.

You could be a great fit if you have

    • 5+ years of experience in an operational role, building and developing diverse teams, optimizing processes, and delivering business goals ideally at an early stage & high growth company
    • People management experience and proven ability to deliver outstanding results through others. Motivates teams both through in-person and remote management
    • Proven ability to execute and track record of getting projects across the finish line successfully
    • Exceptional communicator, both with peers and cross-functional teams and external partners
    • Great multitasking and prioritizing skills across projects, people, and functions.
    • Effective and inspiring leadership that people naturally follow and rally behind
    • Goal focus with a strong bias toward action. You embrace pressure and love the constant urgency needed to solve unique problems
    • Extremele detail and process orientatation with a focus on scale
    • Data-driven mindset, strong business judgment, and proven ability to perform analysis, and draw key insights.  A strong understanding of real-time marketplaces (supply and demand economics)
    • Mindset of finding a way to succeed no matter the challenge

Terms and conditions:

    • Full-time contract
    • Location: You may be based in San Francisco or another US location with proximity to a major airport.
    • Regular travel expected and dependent on launch schedules and how quickly you can build out and scale your teams
    • Reports to Head of US Operations
