Head of US Operations at Starship Technologies

Starship Technologies is the world’s leading autonomous delivery company and the first autonomous delivery company to complete over 100,000 commercial deliveries. The company was founded by two of Skype’s founders and has raised over $85M in venture capital. Our autonomous delivery robots have traveled over 350,000 miles in 100 different cities and have crossed streets over 4M times. Our robots work 7 days a week in neighborhoods, at universities and at industrial and corporate campuses.
 
We are now looking for an experienced operational leader to join our team as Head of US Operations and help take our US operations to the next level. Our operational teams include three primary functions: on-site operations, new site launches, and remote monitoring and piloting of our robots. 
 
Our launch teams deploy to various cities to stand-up and launch the service at a new site. Then our on-site operations people are stationed close to our customers where they help with various tasks related to merchant support as well as handling of the robots. Our remote operations teams monitor and pilot our robots from afar augmenting our autonomous capabilities in various situations. 
 
A successful candidate will have proven operations excellence, demonstrated the ability to scale teams rapidly and ensure operational quality across various teams and locations. 

In this role, you will get to

    • Be responsible for the effective and successful management of our various US operations teams
    • Be responsible for managing hundreds of new site launches, ensuring that we set up the site, hire and train onsite teams
    • Together with the team manage the entire launch phase including onsite relationships with campus staff, food service providers, facilities, hiring, training, logistics, and robot infrastructure
    • Provide outstanding leadership to team managers and team members
    • Identify patterns and problem areas, and implement effective solutions to constantly be driving increased efficiency, productivity, and quality
    • Analyze and enhance our operational procedures, workflows, and systems 
    • Scale the teams to meet our growing business needs, including forecasting, hiring, and training
    • Bring order to a dynamic environment with short timelines while working under tight deadlines, and not being afraid of going out into the field on the ground level
    • Liaise with other departments (including engineering, product, mapping, support, and logistics) to ensure we offer a smooth, high-quality service to our customers, and transfer information to other teams where their work can drive improved system effectiveness and efficiency

We would love to see you apply if you have

    • 7+ years of experience in an operational role, building and developing diverse teams, optimizing processes, and delivering business goals ideally at an early stage & high growth company
    • People management experience and proven ability to deliver outstanding results through others. You want to motivate teams both through in-person and remote management
    • Proven ability to execute and track record of getting projects across the finish line successfully
    • Exceptional communication skills, both with peers and cross-functional teams and external partners
    • Effective and inspiring leadership that people naturally follow and rally behind
    • Goal focus with a strong bias toward action. You embrace pressure and love the constant urgency needed to solve unique problems
    • Data-driven mindset, strong business judgment, and proven ability to perform analysis, and draw key insights.  A strong understanding of real-time marketplaces (supply and demand economics).
    • Understanding of the big picture of things and the ability to think at systems and company wide scale
This role will be based in San Francisco.
Some travel is expected and dependent on launch schedules and how quickly you can build out and scale your teams.
