We see a future where delivery is more convenient for everyone – made possible by our star team of autonomous neighbourhood robots. 
We have now entered the commercial phase, with hundreds of robots delivering food to thousands of happy customers across the United States, as well as in four countries in Europe.
Starship Technologies is a paradise for data enthusiasts. Data is gathered from the robots, their infrastructure, and the world around them. We are truly a data-driven company and doing a good job at managing the data flow is an important part of our success.
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data team. You will play an instrumental role in scaling our data platform, by designing and implementing our data architecture, tools and processes. You will be working on high-impact projects that improve data availability and quality, providing reliable access to data for analytics and predictive services. 

You will be asked to:

    • Run projects to make our data infrastructure more scalable, reliable, and easier to use
    • Ensure that day-to-day data flows run smoothly
    • Build & maintain infrastructure around our predictive models
    • Advise data users on best practice
    • Actively contribute to discussions on data architecture and tooling

You will be expected to have the following skills:

    • An excellent understanding of SQL & NoSQL databases
    • Experience in building and maintaining production services
    • A systematic approach to debugging, or the tracking down and fixing of software bugs
    • Experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS)

The following qualities would make you an ideal candidate:

    • Prior experience with Spark and Kafka
    • An active interest in the world of data engineering
    • An ability to learn and utilize new technologies very quickly
    • A formidable level of experience in a related role

Our software stack

    • Our data infrastructure is 100% deployed on AWS and 95% uses popular open source tools
    • We make heavy use of Spark to process and transform data
    • We schedule everything with Airflow
    • We have adopted Databricks as a common platform for working with data
    • We are currently in the midst of shifting our architecture to streaming data (Kafka)

    • Full time contract with a four-month trial period
    • Location: Tallinn, Estonia (with relocation support)
