Product Manager - Cloudstate at Lightbend

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager to lead the Cloudstate project. We need a leader responsible for maximizing the value of the products created by an expert development/operations team, acting as a proxy for our customer’s needs through stakeholder interaction.


  • Maintain a high-level perspective to define goals and create the vision for development of a Cloud-based platform/service. Communicate with stakeholders across the board, including customers, Engineering, and Operations to make sure the goals are clear, and the vision is aligned with business objectives.
  • Manage the product backlog, including creating and prioritizing the list of backlog items to support the overall strategy and business objectives, within the constraints of technical dependencies.
  • Inspect and evaluate product progress continually, and communicate this to key stakeholders.
  • Travel occasionally to meet with Lightbend’s technical team and visit important customers and prospects.

Candidates can live anywhere in North America.



  • Have substantial experience with lean and agile teams.
  • Have experience in the development and release of a Cloud-based hosted product.
  • Have an understanding of the unique needs of Cloud-based products and platforms.
  • Have experience effectively managing a product backlog to best achieve goals and missions.
  • Have a good understanding of open source software and ecosystem.
  • The ability to optimize the value of the work of Engineering and Operations teams.
  • A proven ability to successfully lead teams across dispersed organizations and geographical locations.
  • An ability to understand the product, the customer and the business in order to make sound decisions and to anticipate stakeholder needs.
  • Have experience managing project risk.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Are skillful at interacting and working with people.
  • Are dedicated to best practices such as automated testing, code reviews, continuous integration, and continuous deployment.
  • Are biased towards action on tough problems and issues, and focused on your team and customer’s success.
  • Are an agent of change, constantly learning and seeking better outcomes.
  • Hold at least a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Authorized to work in North America long term.
