The Impact You’ll Make

As a Data Scientist on our content team, you’ll focus on developing, testing and evaluating data-driven content to help build informed conversation and engagement in local communities. You’ll help leverage a wide variety of data sources to extract insights about what is happening in local communities, and develop models to transform that data into informative and engaging content. You’ll directly contribute to growing and improving our core product, and will help lead us to the future of data and content at Nextdoor.  

You should be excited to bring your experience and expertise every day in order to:  

  • Design and develop algorithms and models to transform data from a variety of sources into automated local content
  • Leverage statistics, time series analysis, machine learning, and natural language processing to extract and represent newsworthy insights
  • Develop and share key strategic insights through data analysis, including designing experiments and evaluating the performance and impact of data-driven content
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support product development efforts (including editorial, product, design, engineering, marketing, operations, and sales)
  • Create and optimize statistical models and algorithms to help drive product and strategic decision-making
  • Care deeply about data quality and empowering employees to leverage data to help them succeed in their careers and help Nextdoor grow and succeed

What You’ll Bring to The House

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field and 2+ years work experience in data science or equivalent
  • Expert knowledge of Python programming, including common scientific computing packages and data science tools such as numpy, pandas, and scikit-learn
  • Strong knowledge of SQL
  • Experience with common methods and tools for natural language processing and machine learning
  • Experience effectively presenting insights and summarizing complex data to diverse audiences through visualizations and other means
  • Ability to understand, tackle, and communicate problems from both technical and business perspectives
  • Innate curiosity around finding meaningful insights that inform the way we think about and develop both our product and our business strategies

Bonus Points

  • Experience in computational social science, computational journalism, policy analysis, and/or similar fields that use real world data to analyze economic, political, and/or social developments and communicate findings clearly to inform diverse audiences
