DevOps Engineering Manager - Remote at Doctor On Demand

We are looking for an engineering manager to lead a small, but talented team of DevOps engineers in the Platform Services engineering group. The Platform Services group is responsible for ensuring the reliability of our hosted applications in addition to providing tools engineers can use to efficiently develop, test and deliver high-quality code to production. A successful candidate is a self-sufficient engineer, comfortable managing a team who can evaluate new technology and work with the larger engineering group to implement highly-available services.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Management of a small team of highly skilled engineers

  • Collaborate with other Platform Services managers to integrate efforts among the various teams

  • Deploy tools for collecting, aggregating and alerting on server/application metrics; use data collected to inform decision-making on performance and scalability

  • Collaborate with the engineering team to evaluate, build, test, document and deliver highly available services to support core infrastructure and Doctor On Demand’s client applications

  • Be part of an on-call rotation that monitors/maintains availability of our application

  • Maintain current environments, while working to improve the system architecture when needed

 

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to implement and improve processes and team project prioritization

  • Comfortable leading a team while being hands-on technically

  • Comfortable working with AWS

  • Strong Linux/Unix administration skills

  • Written production code in a language other than BASH (we like Python)

  • Proficiency in a configuration management tool such as Ansible, Saltstack, Chef

  • Experience managing an on-call rotation and setting up escalation paths

  • Experience deploying a variety of web applications

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker

  • Makes good decisions under pressure

  • Takes ownership of tools released to the team

  • Currently authorized to work in the United States - no sponsorship is available for this position

 

Bonus Points:

  • Hashicorp tools like Packer/Consul/Vault

  • Worked with a log aggregation framework like Splunk or ELK/EFK stack

  • History of working in a HIPAA compliant environment

  • Experience optimizing Postgres

  • Familiarity with Celery and RabbitMQ (or similar) for asynchronous tasks

  • Redis experience
