The Impact You’ll Make

As Senior Security Engineer, you will design, plan, and execute multiple programs to protect Nextdoor’s systems, data, and people.  You should be a thoughtful and strategic leader, but also willing to roll up your sleeves.

You will be a critical partner in creating and executing on global security policies and programs. You should be excited to bring your experience and expertise every day in order to:  

  • Plan, evaluate, and implement solutions to protect Nextdoor’s networks, computers, and data, including intrusion detection and prevention, endpoint protection, cloud security posture management, and access control.  Balance the needs of security with a fast moving, agile business.
  • Participate in security incident response planning, including cross-functional playbooks and table top exercises.
  • Assess vendor solutions and business partnerships to protect Nextdoor systems, data, and people and ensure security compliance with GDPR and CCPA.
  • Educate teams and people across the company on how to best stay secure.
  • Keep Nextdoor informed on attacker behavior and changes in the threat landscape.

What You’ll Bring to The House

  • 5+ years hands-on technical experience designing and leading information security initiatives with the proven ability to contribute at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Expert in network and endpoint security architecture and monitoring.
  • A technical understanding of modern best practices for operating and securing a cloud-native ecosystem (G-suite, Okta, AWS).
  • Experience in Python, Java, or Go.
  • Enthusiasm for community enrichment and Nextdoor’s core values. 

Bonus Points

  • Security certifications including GIAC Certified Enterprise Defender (GCED), Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA), ISC2 Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP), and AWS Certified Security Speciality. 
  • Familiarity with control frameworks such as ISO 27001/2, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and Center for Internet Security Controls for Effective Cyber Defense.
  • Automation experience in Puppet, Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
