Overview 
 
The Merchandising Manager manages merchandising operations, develops and executes merchandising plans that will be responsible for delivering volume and profit goals. You will utilize customer insights, consumer trends, buying patterns, sales and inventory metrics, forecasting, and competitive landscape to partner across various departments including Finance, and Marketing to develop effective merchandising plans. The Merchandising Manager is responsible for identifying new suppliers, and developing products that reflect brand guidelines, incorporate consumer preferences, and drive top line sales.  This role will be based in Toronto and will eventually require frequent travel to Tonal retail locations across the US, and to Tonal's HQ in San Francisco once travel is safe and permissible.
 
What you will do
 
- Develop long term and seasonal priorities and business plans, line architectures, and resultant briefs for Apparel and Accessories that serve the needs of the business
- Manage  the product life-cycle for all styles in assigned product categories including introduction, build and retirement of those styles
- Analyze sales figures, customer reaction, and market trends to anticipate product needs and plan product ranges/stock levels
- Lead the in-season management of your product category through flow, product education, chase, cancellations, markdowns and exit
- Collaborate with various departments, suppliers, distributors and analysts to negotiate prices, quantities and time-scales
- Maximize customer interest and sales levels by providing merchandising display strategies for both e-commerce and brick & mortar
- Partner with marketing to activate marketing plans as well as develop omni-channel supporting campaigns to drive awareness and conversion
- Forecast profits/sales and plan budgets
- Align channels and cross-functional partners on deliverables across key merchandising activities
- Source, implement and drive standardization and simplification of processes, reporting, shared documents and assortment systems
- Identify unique, underdeveloped, emerging or new, products or categories, based on statistical analysis, competitive landscape, customer feedback, and web analytics  
 
Who You Are 
 
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Buying, Planning, and or Allocations
- Proven working knowledge of apparel Merchandising, Operations, and Project Management.
- A strong understanding of retail math, margin metrics, category pricing, and price elasticity modeling.
- Demonstrated Entrepreneurship - an ability to make decisions and take calculated risks
- Proven experience in developing and implementing effective business processes and managing reporting needs for a multi-channel organization
- Ability to effectively interact and facilitate meetings with all levels
- Highly organized, proactive by nature, strong collaboration skills and the ability to influence key stakeholders
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively problem solve
- Proficient with software applications, particularly Microsoft Office suite – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint
- Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
- Experience with PLM, SAP, SAS, and Tableau a plus
- Expect travel 20 - 30%  of the time once travel is safe and permissible
