Outpost is creating the world's first commercial reusable satellites that will come back to earth after mission completion and then get refurbished for the next mission, reducing future space debris and contributing to the long term sustainability of human life in space while making the cost of a satellite mission up to 80% cheaper and 100% cleaner. 

We enable precision Earth Return of satellites and orbital payloads. We believe that our future in space must be built with sustainability at its core and that efficient, precise Earth Return is essential for the development of new industries in space and the improvement of life on Earth.

Chief of Staff at Outpost Space

(In-person role at least 3 days/week in Santa Monica, CA - not open to remote)

  • Able to go broad and deep: sometimes your week is moving across multiple different departments and tasks, both high level and extremely detailed; other times you’ll be very focused on solving a specific or urgent problem

  • Report directly to the CEO
  • Be a thought partner to the CEO - support and follow through on his initiatives, and provided a needed sounding board around communications and decision making
  • Jump into and sometimes lead different departments of the business as needed, particularly where people resources may be thin before hires are made in certain areas
  • Partner with the CEO on all aspects of fundraising - building pitch deck, identifying leads, relationship development with VCs
  • Partner with on financial modeling as needed
  • Manage team members in operations, and finance and sales as needed
  • Collaborate with the CEO’s executive assistant to make sure his time is being used strategically for activities that further his and the company’s KPIs
  • Serve as the CEO’s proxy in various internal and external meetings 
  • Help develop culture and processes that will scale

Basic qualifications:

  • Based in the Los Angeles area and willing to commute to our office in Santa Monica at least three days a week, some weeks you may be in 5 days, depending on the needs of the CEO and his schedule
  • Experience working closely with executives
  • Understanding of how startup funding works and experience communicating with investors
  • Highly professional and direct style of written communication
  • Able to read and interrogate financial statements - we work with an accounting firm but you may often be asked to help prepare board materials, review monthly reporting, and help draft budgets
  • Comfort with reviewing basic legal documents and escalating to counsel when necessary

Preferred qualifications (these are more of a minimum, as we are very open to exploring candidates who have more experience than these qualifications suggest): 

  • 2-3 years’ experience in management consulting or investment banking
  • 1-2 years previous experience at an early stage startup (<100 employees)
  • Excitement about the space industry and eagerness to learn
  • BA or BS in management and/or real world management experience


  • $160,000 - $200,000 / year, depending on experience
